Del Mar checkpoint nets 5 arrests
Deputies from the Encinitas Sheriff’s station conducted a DUI/driver license checkpoint starting Sept. 3 near Jimmy Durante Boulevard in Del Mar.

The checkpoint, held between 6 and 11 p.m., resulted in five arrests and five citations, according to authorities.

The Sheriff’s Department is placing 30-day holds on vehicles driven by drivers who are  unlicensed or have a suspended license. Drivers with a suspended license or who are arrested for driving under the influence can incur legal costs amounting to several thousand dollars as well as paying for their
stored vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Funding for law enforcement’s crackdown on drunken driving has provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
